Overview

Conditional statements consist of two parts:

  1. the condition, introduced by si (positive, 'if'), nisi (negative, 'if not', 'unless') or sive ...sive (whether ...or). This is known as the protasis.
  2. the main part of the sentence. This is known as the apodosis

There are several ways of forming conditionals in Latin, depending on the likelihood of the condition being fulfilled and its tense.
